Thai driving license theory

Review the core theory topics that appear in Thai driving license practice questions: laws, signs, road safety, and vehicle care.

The DLT theory exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, and you need a minimum score of 45 out of 50 to pass. That means you can only afford a handful of mistakes, so thorough preparation is essential.

Core exam topics

Traffic law

Right-of-way rules, speed limits, overtaking regulations, signalling requirements, and legal penalties.

Road signs and markings

Recognition of mandatory, warning, and informational signs, lane and road-surface markings, and traffic lights.

Safe driving techniques

Speed management, following distance, hazard perception, night driving, rain driving, and emergency braking.

Vehicle maintenance

Basic checks: tyre condition and pressure, brake function, headlights and indicators, engine oil, coolant, and battery health.

Road safety awareness

Driver etiquette, sharing the road with motorcycles and pedestrians, understanding accident causes.

How to study effectively

  1. Go category by category. Focus on one area — such as traffic signs — until you can consistently answer correctly, then move on.
  2. Use flashcards for active recall. Our flashcard trainer hides the answer until you reveal it, which strengthens memory better than passive reading.
  3. Study with realistic images. Many DLT questions use official road sign and traffic scene images. Our question bank includes these visuals.
  4. Learn right-of-way patterns. Questions about who goes first at intersections follow consistent rules. Internalise them for a large portion of the exam.

Exam-day tips

  • Read every question twice. Look for words like "not", "except", or "always" that change the meaning.
  • Expect DLT-style images and signs. A significant number of questions display a road sign or traffic scene.
  • Prioritise signs and right-of-way. These two categories often account for the largest share of questions.
  • Use the DLT e-Book as a supplement. The official training manual covers every topic in depth.
  • Don't rush. You have ample time. Work methodically and review answers you are unsure about before submitting.
